The ISPM 15 certified standard wood treatments are heat treatment which subjects the wooden pallets and other wood packaging materials to a temperature of 56 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes.
The goal of ISPM 15 is to reduce significantly the risk of introduction and spread of most quarantine pests associated with wood packing materials. Wood is home to various organisms, including fungi, bacteria, and insects. Not only these organisms may expedite wood decomposition process, but also may spread wide and far, especially when transported in cargo for international trade.
The ISPM 15 applies to wood packing materials, which include wood pallets, crates, boxes, and drums. It does not apply to non-wood materials, despite these may be used in combination with wooden component in packaging.
